WHAT IS THE MODIFIED BITUMEN HYBRID BUR?
A Modified Bitumen Hybrid BUR roofing system combines the redundancy of traditional Built-Up Roofing (BUR) with the advanced technology of modified bitumen roofing membranes. The system includes two-plies of Polyglass’ superior, factory-made SBS base sheets adhered with hot asphalt. This cuts in half the traditional four-ply, field fabricated membranes used in traditional BUR. Polyglass’ elastomeric (SBS) mod bit roofing membranes are more flexible, and when combined with hot asphalt create a high-caliber roof system with full adhesion across multiple layers. The vast increase in flexibility and thickness over traditional stiff fiberglass BUR provides great puncture and impact resistance, including ease of completing water-tight flashings.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OVER TRADITIONAL BUR?
LONG-TERM RESISTANCE TO MOISTURE – DIMENSIONAL STABILITY – FLEXIBILITY – DURABILITY
- Faster installation than traditional BUR, which must be applied in two or more operations.
- Removes the risk of interply sheets blistering, mopping voids caused by moisture and accumulation of dust or debris that can weaken the next ply.
- Does not split – elastomeric flexibility expands and contracts with building movements, specifically in cold-weather climates.
- Stands up to UV and water exposure, will not deteriorate like traditional BUR upon erosion of aggregate composition.
